Are you trying to help an animal in need?

Are you having problems with your own pet?

If so, call our Animal Assistance Helpline at 860-242-9999 ext. 6 and speak with one of our specially trained Animal Welfare Professionals.

Most animal shelters are continuously full. Even if a shelter is able to take in an "unwanted" animal, the sad truth is that homeless pets are euthanized in Connecticut every day. Abandoning animals is not a good alternative, either. Domestic animals cannot fend for themselves, and they often fall victim to injury, disease, starvation, and death.

The Animal Assistance Program prevents the unnecessary abandonment and euthanasia by proving resources and options so pet owners can make humane and responsible decisions.

If behavioral issues are a problem, we can arrange for in-home or class training. If a family must move into a new apartment, we can help them locate suitable pet-friendly housing. Our Helpline volunteers are able to assist pet owners with all sorts of difficulties.

For those who have no alternative but to find a new home for a pet (perhaps due to the death of a relative or another unforeseen circumstance), Animal Assistance Program volunteers can provide a wealth of resources and walk people through the adoption process.

A fantastic guide is the "Forever Home" manual PDF, which is available for download . When people take responsibility for locating a good home for an "unwanted" animal, shelters are able to use their resources to adopt out other needy animals that would otherwise be destroyed. Additionally, people who make the effort to seek out a great new home for their pet can rest assured that the animal is happy, healthy, and safe.
